Siwon Choi, is an extremely popular South Korean Singer, Model, Actor, Member of Boy Band Super Juniors, and a Philanthropist. He is one of the most popular KPop and KDrama celebrity, not just in South Korea, but around the world. Most of us know him for his role in She was Pretty, Revolutionary Love, and many more dramas. In 2016, Siwon made it to the list of Forbe's 30 Under 30 Asia. Siwon Choi was selected as a special representative of UNICEF Korea for 4 years. He was then, chosen as the UNICEF Regional Ambassador for East-Asia and Pacific in November 2019.
Siwon Choi's Early Days
Choi was born in Seoul, South Korea, on April 7th, 1986. He studied at Apgu Jeong High School and graduated from Inha University in 2012. Siwon made his debut with Super Junior in 2005 and has been popular among KPop fans ever since. In 2008, he appeared on a postage stamp of China, and become one of the first South Korean artists to appear on such a stamp. The stamps were sold at a charity event. The money raised from that charity was donated to the victims of the earthquake which took place in China the same year. In 2015, a wax figure of him was displayed at Madame Tussauds in Hong Kong. Siwon Choi also enlisted in 2015 for the military, which is a mandatory service to be provided by Korean males as compulsory military service, and was discharged in 2017.
Siwon's Philanthropic Work
As soon as he was released from his military duties, Siwon Choi announced that he will volunteer with UNICEF. Siwon has been an advocate of children's rights from the beginning. Since he was appointed the Regional Ambassador, he has been conducting online events, and even tours to protect and promote children's rights. His appointment took place during the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of Child. UNICEF appoints an Ambassador from the field of art, literature, science, entertainment, sports, and other public fields, intending to raise awareness about issues that are of global importance.
UNICEF has worked in extreme places worldwide and reached the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children. They have a presence across 190 countries, fighting for the rights of every single child. Siwon Choi joined the UNICEF team in 2010 and has been working ever since. A campaign named "SMile for U" provides music education for children with disabilities which partnered with Choi's agency, SM Entertainment.
Siwon Choi has been traveling to the region like Vietnam, to promote the campaign #StopBullying to raise awareness about the issue and educate the children of how to put an end to this problem and be compassionate to one another.
